A Business Activity Statement (BAS) provides a summary of transactions that may include:
- PAYG income tax instalment (which will include the flood levy where applicable)
- PAYG tax withheld
- Fringe benefits tax (FBT) instalment
- Luxury car tax
- Wine equalisation tax
- Fuel tax credits
- Instalment notices for GST and/or PAYG instalments
The Australian Tax Office (ATO) requires businesses to be registered when they engage in these activities by way of payment, collection or both.
A BAS is required to be lodged either on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis.
The following are dates are important when it comes to lodging and paying your BAS on time.
Quarterly BAS Lodgement Due Dates
QTR 1: Jul-Sept 28th October
QTR 2: Oct-Dec 28th February
QTR 3: Jan-Mar 28th April
QTR 4: Apr-Jun 28th July
Monthly BAS Lodgement Dates
21st day of the following month.
If the due date falls on a weekend or public holiday, lodgement/payment is due on the next business day.
If you are unable to lodge your BAS on time or need to make a payment arrangement contact the ATO on 13 28 66.
Penalties may apply for late lodgement.
