He’s been a forklift driver, a storeman, an electrician, a sales clerk, a manager, a business owner and more.
He’s a single custodial father, a part-time football coach, and an active supporter for a variety of social causes.

But these days you might know him best as the Federal Member for Swan, Steve Irons.

And no matter what your personal politics, Steve Irons is acknowledged as a rarity in public life; he says what he means and he means what he says.

Steve Irons - Fed MP for Swan
Steve Irons will be Guest Speaker at our next Business Networking Opportunity on Wednesday, April 28th.

His 25 years’ experience in small business, coupled with his political savvy, gives him a unique insight into the challenges facing business owners.... and what can be done about them.

“Small business is being crippled by onerous compliance costs,” says Mr Irons.
“Australian businesses pay more than $20 billion a year right now and I can see it only getting worse,” he says.

“It’s just one example of how most governments and bureaucrats don’t have a clue how to run a business.”

Mr Irons questions current laws which force business operators to pay tax on Turnover, rather than Profit.
“Cash is King in small business, “he says, “always has been, always will be.”

“There are government financial obligations that can place stress on small business cash flow”
Mr Irons says, thanks to a generous and highly ethical mentor, he learned the fundamentals of sound business practice at an early age.

He believes they’re just as true today as they were 25 years ago.
“My first boss, Robert Dunn, a football fan, was big on what he called the financial scoreboard,” Mr Irons says fondly.

“He always told me; if you don’t know the score in footy, how do you know if you’re winning or losing?”
“It’s those basic disciplines ~ your Profit & Loss, Cash Flow forecasts, Balance Sheets and the like ~ that are the real measure of your business.”

Steve Irons believes small business is often the overlooked “engine” of the Australian economy and is determined to raise its profile.

Come and hear his thoughtful contribution, ask questions and raise issues that concern you at the next Business Networking Opportunity on Wednesday, April 28th at 5.45 pm for a 6.00 pm start.
Attendance is by prior registration only and the cost is just $10.00.

Until next time,
